John Holmes, aged 72, was charged with the attempted murder of Ii is wife on November 2nd., by .shooting. The medical evidence showed that Mrs Holmes was shot behind the lower jaw with a 12 caliber rillo and her condition was for set oral weeks, serious. Mrs Holmes is much younger than her husband. She gave evidence to the effect that her'husband and her lived happily enough together, hut latterly Holmes had suspected infidelity on her part, quite without justification. He had been a bit queer. He bad never threatened violence to liimselt or her. He complained of being unable to sleep, lie told her some time before the shouting that he had not slept for weeks. They slept ill different rooms, she had been able tn prove absolutely to Holmes Hat he was wrong in his auspicious. That did not alter his attitude, lie was under a delusion which the weild could licit shake.
