To lie suddenly hurled over a steep embankment, and narrowly avert latal injury was the lot ot live motorists travelling along the Omuto Hoad, shortly' before live o’clock yesterday afternoon. The car was a seveu-sealer Studebaker, driven by Air W. Fisher ju ll . of Nelson Creek, who was returning home irom Greymouth, with Ids parents, Alt' and All's Fisher. Aliss O’Brien, a sister of Airs Fisher, and Mr Berry Woods, of Blackball, were the other occupants ot the cal'. Ihe accident happened on the steep hill, at the oilier side of the Omotii Brewery. When approaching the bend in the road, neai the lesldell'C ot Alt' G. 'I . Joyce, the ear met a Buck machine. driven bv Air Harry .Melville, ing down the bill. Air Fisher, jur.. apparently swerved too far when passing the Buck ear, getting over the edge ot the road; and. running for about half a chain. Ins ear struck the end of a road culvert, which caused it to turn two complete somersaults before coming to rest, wheels uppermost, in the gully about 1!) feet below the road. The driver, .Mr Fisher, jar. was pinned beneath the steering wheel, the other occupants being thrown clear. Assistance was promptly .summoned, and it was found necessary to remove lie sulferei’s. with the exception ol Air Berry Woods, to the Grey ltivcr Hospital, where it- was found that Air Fisher, sour., had sustained a fractured rib, ami minor injuries, and Aliss O’Blieu had also had one rib fractured. Airs Fisher and Air Fisher jnr., beyond being badly shaken, have not sustained any serious injuries. On later enquiry at the Hospital last night, the condithe sufferers was reported to he comfortable, although all were sutl'eritig from shock. The of ihe accident is known to motorists-as one of the most dangerous bends on the road between Greymouth and Beefton. The car was greatly damaged, the body of it being much knocked about, and it was a difficult job for the stall of Alessrs Schaef ami Sons to raise it back oil the road.
