BY TKLECHArn—rRESS ASSN., COPYRIGHT. NEW RAILWAY HEADS. WELLINGTON, December HI. 'lhe Hon. J. G. Coates, .Minister (if Railways, when seen to-day concerning the reorganisation of the management of the New Zealand Railways stated that lie had come to the conclusion some time ago that on the retirement of Air AlcYilly, a Board of Alanagement, consisting of three, would provide a satisfactory form of management to cope with the existing railway problems. This step, however, was held in abeyance owing to the decision of the G overnment to invite Sir Sam hay and Sir Vincent Raven to investigate the system. Naturally, the question of management was one that occupied a prominent place in the order, of reference.

This lias now been received by the Government, and Mr McYilly’s active association with the Department terminated on Kridiiy last. Although the full details of the report are not yet available for publication, ] think it desirable to say that the Commission has concurred in the proposal to constitute a Kail way Board, consisting of three trained Railway men, capable of bringing the New Zealand Railways up to cue average world standard of cheap and efficient transport. The matter was referred to Cabinet, which decided to accept Mr McYilly’s resignation, and to form a Hoard on the lines originally proposed by ifio. So far, only one appointment to tile Hoard has been made—that of Mr l'\ .T. Jones, who has been appointed Chairman. Mr Jones has held the position of Chief Kngineer since the retirement of Mr Mcbean, and he will carry on. in his new capacity, as head of the 'Department, pending the appointment of the two remaining members. J expect to make further statements in regard thereto in the course of a day or two.” IXFANTIDK HA RALYSIS. AYKMVINGTOX. December 10.
