Afiehel (President), Alesdames Pilkington, Parkhill and ifenjamin, .Messrs Irvine, Richards, lCvans, Preston, Pilkington, and Xiven. Alter disposing of the formal husiness. tlie lion, secretary (Air Xiven) reported that the collectors (.Messrs Preston and Evans) had raised £2.7 Ms (id by a personal canvas, which was still incomplete. The work done during tho month was reported on, and it was stated the Borough Council was procuring a horse mower for Cass Square. The site for the gift sundial on Alacaudrew Square had now been fixed. The Chairman appreciated tlie work of the collectors. He stated tho grass on tho Square had been disposed of and some small sums collected. There was tlie necessity of shepherding Hie finance, and he would like to see the tarring of the track continued so as to keep down the weed growth and avoid the incurring cost of continually chipping. Several small works about the Square required attention and the best possible would he done. It was stated the collectors would endeavour to finish the canvass on Tuesday next. The Chairman suggested a carnival [ lie hold in Cebruary to replenish the
funds and permit of further beautifying work. This was agreed to aiul the date fixed was Wednesday, February 18th. It was decided to ask for the co-operation of the schools and teachers the Cycling Club, the cricket club ami other bodies. It was hoped that the schools would'arrange drill and other items and if posible tho Alaypolo. That the Cycling Club would arrange cycle ami novelty items. and the cricket club a costume cricket match. The Chairman said Air Haile would organise a. Floral Koto in connection with the carnival, and arrange a committee of workers. It was decided to ask Alesdames .Michel and Butler to airaiige lor gilts, and to hold a Paddy s Alarket and Dutch Auction. It was
resolved also to invite the Indies who assisted formerly to help with other stalls including sweets, refresh moil t.t and novelties. It was staled it would lie necessary to raise a substantial sum. and it was hoped to make the event an annual one for the beautifying of the town generally. Various suggestions were made in respect to the day, which is to conclude with a gala hall at night at the Soldiers’ Hall for which event Messrs Vandl and Michel aro to he asked to aid as lion, secretaries. 'flic whole proposal was taken up enthusiastically so that a very pleasant form of function should he arranged. It, is honed to have the attendance of the hand. The meeting concluded with a vote of thanks to the chair.
