Eleventh hour prospects of ;i visit by American athletes this season are heightened bv the decision arrived at at a special meeting of the council of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association to-night. It was known that C. AV. Paddock, of California, and L. .Murchison, of Newark, wore contemplating a tour early next year, and proposed to call at Honolulu, China, •Japan. Australia and New Zealand. An itinerary carried out in that order would have brought them to New Zealand in the winter months, and in order to secure the full benefit the visit would impart to sport here! the euit cil to-night decided to extend an invitation to Pntldock and Murchison to
make New Zealand their first port of call after Honolulu. Their reply will he keenly awaited. It is within the reach of possibility also that Australia will he able to dispatch a team to the Dominion during the season.
