Tin-: Kixcrs speech. CONSERVATIVE’S INTENTIONS. (Received this day at 9.15 a.m.) LONDON, December 9. The Kind’s Speech .says the Government propose to proceed with the plans already made for enlarging the naval base at Sngapore. He has no doubt the happy result of the Prince of Wales prvious visits to the Dominions will he repeated in South Africa, during the Spring of 1925. The l’rinee of Wales will visit Argentine in 1925, in response to an invitation from the President and (iovernment. The Imperial and Dominions Governments have begun to examine the disarmament protocol, hut are unable to recommend consideration of the recent Anglo-Russian treaties. Nominal intercourse between the two countries is possible by a strict fulfilment of the conditions of friendly international intercourse which is repeatedly submitted to the Soviet Government. The Government’s guiding principle will he the closest co-operation with the Dominions and Indian Governments. The Government would steadfastly adhere to the encouragement of mutual trade and proposals would ho submitted for granting further preference to Empire product*. A hill would he introduced and a safeguarding of industries provision would he made for the allevnition of unemployment ami the relief of the bousing shortage hv the eneouragement of lieu' methods. My Ministers are enquiring into the possibility of improving old age pensions and tile pensioning of widowed mothers. A measure will be submitted to encourage the sugar beet ndustry and provide for the marking of imported foodstuffs to carry out the recommendations of the committee on preservatives and the colouring of food. In the Commons Mr Baldwin stated the Government had not yet decided on the length of time over which the Singapore works would be spread lie was Communicating with the Dominions in regard to the question of contributions. The Hon. Air Amerv (Colonial Secretary! gave notice of the introduction of a bill for carrying out the Economic Conference proposals.
