HOKITIKA SCHOOL COMMITTEE.

.MONDAY, DECEMBER Bth. The adjourned meeting of the Committee was held at 7.10 p.m. Present: -Messrs H. R. Sueney (voted to the chair), AY. E. Richards, AY. Goodfellow, R. J. Pedder, and J. Conning (boil, see.) A'OTE OF CONDOLENCE. Air Sweney referred to the loss sustained by the Chairman (Rev. .T. F. Jack) by tlio death of bis mother, and moved that a sincere vote of sympathy and condolence from the Committee he recorded on the minutes and conveyed hv letter. The motion was carried in silence, members standing. THE .MINUTES. The minutes were confirmed and outward correspondence approved. IXWARD CORKKSPC)XDENCE. From teacher, South Spit, in reference to the recent examination report of I inspector.—Received. From. Canterbury Education Board, in reference to appointment of needlework instructor for South Spit.—Received ; enquiry to he made to the number of girls requiring tuition. From Teacher, South Spit, reporting average attendance was 18 and roll number 21.8.—Received.

From, Rector (Air T. Irvine) monthly report (already published).—Received. Action in obtaining locks for the gates was approved. From Aljss Roglo (dental nurse) thanking the Committee for support given her during her period oi service and unifying her transfer to Hastings. Received. The teachers’ oiler to hold a fair to raise funds for the prizes was approved. The Rector stated it was proposed to hold the fair on the 17th when the support of the Committee would he welcome. In regard to the ’Xmas holidays it was resolved that the primary school close down on December 10th and that the secondary classes close on December 12th subject to the approval ol the Board. It was resolved that the prizes he distributed on the Friday afternoon of the break-up, December 10th. It- was resolved to convey to Miss Regie the appreciation ol the Committee of the services rendered by her as dental nurse. From A’isiting Committee (Afr Goodfellow), reporting that the fencing required attention.—Received. The secret ary was authorised to have temporary repairs elleeted (o the fencing. Air Redder moved that the leaching stall' he congratulated on the success achieved by the pupils who went lip for th(> recent examinations. Seconded by Mr Conning and carried. The Rector returned thanks, stating that lie had never come across better young teachers and probationers than they had at present on the school stafT. They were doing excellent work. 'J'he secretary reported that enquiries from the Railway Department had shown that there could only be accom"inodatioii given lor 200 or 800 scholars to (ttira or Arthur’s I’ass, so that trip was out ol the question. In regard to the locality 01. the annual picnic it was resolved that the Rector he asked to take a ballot of the narents for the site of the annual picnic, Moss, Lake Mahinapua, Ktunara Reach. Kimanpa and Brunner to lie submitted. Seconded by Air Richards anil carried, picnic to be bold oil Wednesday. Fel.i ua ry lib. The secretary loportod the liiinaiiga picnic was coming to Hokitika on January I til and lie was making arrangements for the supply of hot water. Accounts were passed for payment amounting to Ll2 8s 2d. The Committee rose at 8.1.> p.m.
