REPORT EXPECTED THIS WEEK. CHRISTCHURCH, Dec. 0. The lion. J. G. Coates (.Minister of Railways) told pressmen that he expects to receive the report of the Railways Commission about Thursday next, as Sir Sam Fay and Sir Vincent Raven leave on Friday for Sydney. The Minister intends to make the report public sis soon as possible. NEW TOT A LISATOR PERMITS. AUCKLAND, December 3. “On the whole I found the racecourses of the Far North very well equipped,” said the lion R. F. Bullard Minister of Internal Affairs, last evening, " and members of the different clubs are keen to satisfy the demands of the public in making the improvements suggested for their convenience. I am going to the South Island next week on a mission similar to that on which I was engaged in the north and I expect it will ho possible to make the Government's announcement ol the allocation of the new permits early in the New A oar. I am. in consultation with the Racing and Trotting Conferences regarding permits, and I think we can agree very largely as to the clubs that should get the permits to lie allocated.
l.| EG ED STILL SEIZED. INVERCARGILL, Dee. 0. Inspector McNamara and party raided a farm in the lower gorge on Friday. and seized a plant, believed to lie u still, and about 51) gallons of liquor. A well-known fanner. Alexander MeRae, and another, Chishom, were arrested and remanded for a week.
