An unexpected development occurred at the Royal Commission enquiring into the circumstances of the police strike when the Chairman, General Monash, announced that a fresh Commission would ho received, limiting the scope of the enquiry to the general state of efficiency and conditions of the force before the strike, the causes that moved the men to refuse duty and the consequences that arose. The matters that have been removed from the scope of the inquiry are: The present state of the force, and the necessity, if any, of better police protection throughout Victoria. This is regarded as an intimation from the new Ministry which wishes the enquiry to end as scon as possible. CYCLONIC STORM. BRISBANE, December 7. A cyclonic storm struck the town of Blackall, and did considerable damage. Trees were unrooted and telephone wires torn down. The town Hall collapsed and took with it a pari of the roof of the Telegraph Office which adjoined. Shops and Offices in the business part of the town were wrecked and unroofed, while several houses also fared badly. The electric lighting i\stem was thrown out of order. Following the wind came torrential rain which added to the disaster.
