Muldeuger, on respective charges of forgery and uttering in connection with the teachers I) examination in August of last year, were each lined .910. The circumstances were those of the previous cases heard last year, namely impe rsouation. DUNEDIN LABOUR. CANDIDATES. DUNEDIN, December .7. "I he Otago Labour Council has nominated Messrs C. M. Moss, .1. Gilchrist, J. B. MacMnmis. .1. W. Munro. M.P., as candidates for the next general election. The Council has nominated candidates for the City Council, Hospital Board and Harbour lloara.
GREEK ORPHAN FUND. NEW ZEALAND’S CONTRIBUTION. WELLINGTON, December .'). Some time ago the Greeks in New Zealand subscribed to the above fund, and were able to remit to Athens, through their consul, Mr Frank Dyer, quite it considerable amount of money. The consul is now in reeepit of a letter from M. A. Orfanidis, Minister for Public Assistance and ’Health at Athens, in which he says:—- * * 1 11 further reply to your letter of March litli, wherein you remitted the money subscribed hv the Greeks in New Zealand for the orphan fund. I now have pleasure to announce that the amount realised in Greek money is 2(1,701 drachmas DO lepta, anil this has been deposited with the Governor of the Island of Mitiloue, and a cnmjiiittee of the municipality for the credit ol tile male orphans on that island, and enclosed herewith, I beg to hand you receipt for same signed by the Governor. Allow me to lake this opportunity to thank the' philanthropic Greeks in New Zealand who subscribed to the fund, and also yourself for the kindly interest you took in the movement. (Signed) A. PARCELS POST. CASH ON DELIVERY SYSTEM. WELLINGTON. Dec. I. Mr .1. A. Young M.P.. for Hamilton, lias received from the Postmaster-Gen-eral a letter with reference to a. question that Mr Young nut to him in the House of Representatives last session, as to whether the postal regulations eniilcl he revised for the- purpose of providing a cash oil delivery service in connection with inland post parcels. At- the time the Postmaster-General replied that the matter was under consideration; and he has now written to Mr Young:—"l have to inform you that I have looked into the* matter, and I funnel that the question raised has been considered on previous oc„casinns. In 1912. Iln* question was considered by the Auckland Chamber of Commerce, hut the proposal was not supported by that hodv. The c hamber was of the opinion that the system would plav into the hands ol a lew large business firms. In view ol all the circumstances, it is not considered advisable to apply the cash delivery system to inland post parcels.”
