An important, test case arising out ol the invent lire at S.vmrna in September 1022. and involving a vast sum of immev”has begun in the Commercial Court. London. The plaintiffs are the American Tobacco Cov.. who claimed to recover insurance on the property destroyed l>v lire from the (Juardian Assurance Company. The liability of a number of insurance companies to pay insurances on other destroyed property will depend on the judgment in his ease. Plaintiff’s counsel said the issue was ■whether the lire was accidental or came within the exceptions of (ire policies whereon the action was brought. Ills ease was that the lire was accidental. Pods occupied the railway station and attempted to seize the telegraph and telenhonc ollices. The Minister of Communications was shot while on the wav to the station Government troops recaptured the station and restored order after scattered fights in which hand grenades and machine guns wore used. There were a number of casualties including members of the police force.
