THOUGHTS FOR THE TIMES
Nkaii East Rki.ikf. Mr Harold. Spender, an American, who has iccently made a tour of the distressed areas in a speech recently “broadcasted” from .London, said, inter alia: “I would like to te-tifv as an eye-witness, to the splendid and selfsacrificing work Icing d"iic in the Near Hast. Nothing gives more glory to the British name than their humane assistance. It is very touching to find how high the name of England stands among these foot' refugees, and how pathetically they look across Europe to England to help them in their distress. T feel confident that the great British people will maintain the splendid prestige of their race by coming to the help of this very desolate, and afflicted people.”
