MCLEAN’S PICTURES.

■'■BROKEN CHAINS”—TO-NIGHT. McLean's Pictures present to-night a super picture “Broken Chains.” 'I he motion picture has had all sorts of publicity, due to the fact that it won first prize out of 32,000 submissions, it ml great promises have been ui title in its behalf. One went to the theatre prepared to be disappointed in the belief that it had been over-exploited. But “Broken Chains” more than lives up to all Goklwvn claims for it. It is a tremendously engrossing drama of a man’s regeneration front cowardice through an appeal to bis chivalrous nature. There is a gorgeous list light in the ill ill in which it would seem that every hone in the bodies of Malcolm McGregor and Ernest Torrence would have been broken in their encounter over the rescue, of pitiful Mercy Boone, the voting wife chained and padlocked in the cabin of her brutal husband. The production is elaborate and the settings amid the giant redwoods, majestic and beautiful. Allen ITolubar produced the picture for Goldwyn with all his accustomed skill. Colleen Moore outshines her previous roles ns Mercy Boone. She sets a pace fur natural and effective screen acting that is contagious, for nil the other members of the east keep up with her -Malcolm McGregor, Claire Windsor. Ernest Torrence, Gerald Bring. Meryl Mercer, dames Maims. William Orlainom! and all the others. The picture was worth the prize and the generous production given it.
