(From Our Correspondent). The Ball which took place in the Totara llalLon Friday evening proved to ho one of the most successful functions held for some considerable time. Visitors were present in large numbers besides the largo contingents from Hokitika, Ruatapu and South AYc.stland, Grcyniouth and Otira each contributed ii car load. AYhcn it is mentioned that the door takings amounted to over L3O it will give some indication of its jiojiularitv. The local Swimming Club are to be congratulated on their successful efforts and will now have a respectable credit balance with which to carry on. The hall looked very jiretty decorated with coloured streamers and evergreens. Bonetti’s Orchestra supplied excellent music while extras wore jilayed by Misses C. Evans and Tv. Parker. ATr C. Fellows had charge of the floor and carried out liis duties very efficiently. An excellent sujijicr was served at midnight and was much appreciated.

The gathering dispersed at 3 a.m.. everyone apjicaring quite satisfied with tln* outing. A very enjoyable afternoon was sjient oil Saturday when the official opening of the .swimming season took place at the Municipal Baths. The programme consisted of children's events and good entries were received for each item. The handicapping evidently had careful consideration resulting in some close Ii nishes. These ,sports "ill lie continued each alternate Saturday and promise to become very jKijndar.
