PLAY DESCRIBED. SYDNEY, Nov. 23. The weather was line, but dull, when New South 'Wales resumed their innings, with Bardsley 112 and Notbling •I. The wicket was a. bit dead. but. under the influence of a fair breeze, it was drying. Gilligan* and Tate opened the bowling. both men batting brightly. Bardsley reached 150 in 215 minutes but be had a narrow escape from being run out, owing to a quick return by Sandham. Ten runs later, lie tried to pull the ball round on. hut niis-hit H. and Tyldcsley ran up and caught it.
Bardsley had a great reception on returning to the pavilion. He laid lioon batting to 253 minutes and liit ton fours. The remaining batsmen held the crease only eight minutes longer. Tyldcsloy’s performance with the bail (3 for 71) was really much better than bis figures indicate. He was always carefully watched. Strtiel wie-k behind the wickets played excellently. Hobbs and .Sutcliffe were the first to
take the stroke for the Englishmen to the howling of Gregory and Scott. The latter is a fast howler and he kept the inns down. Hobbs went out to a remarkably
line catch by Gregory at fine .‘slip. Gregory jumped and caught the ball with bis left band, tlion dropped it. but recovered it again. When Sutcliffe was eleven, he skied the ball. Three men made for it, but they all stepped. If was really Scott’s hall. Owing to the injury to his thumb. Bardsley’,s place in the field was taken by Morgan. Gregory, fielding well. dismissed Kilner and Douglas with fine catches in the slips. Mai Icy kept the batsmen watchful. Then ho sent down a full toss to Sandman. who pulled it to square leg. where Xojliling was waiting for it. Sandman bad batted for 01! minutes. The fourth wicket added 17 run-. Tate’s wicket fell just on the tea adjournment. He was at first credited with three less than he really got, owing to the umpire signalling byes. Gililgan followed tifte-v ten. and be was warmly received. Hcndi'en played cautiously. He gave one hot chance to Gregory, when he had scored 12. A few minutes Inter, the same fieldsman got Gilligan "ith another remarkable left hand catch. Bain commenced at 1.15 p.m. A 1 ith the advent of Tvldo.sloy, play livened up.
