Cow) presided, and Constable (VCiradv represented the police. F.videnco of identilieation was pi veil by Charles Mitchell Stewart, of ■Christchurch, son of deceased. V\ itness. giving evidence, stated that Ins father, who had been employed on the Langley Estate, had made a statement to him. in thi‘ presence of the matron and witness’s sister, that when he had finished milking he nlempled to -take the milk to the dairv. Crossing the yard, the hull walked tin to him, and witness dropped the milk pails and armed himself with a stick, which was handy, and which he kept for the purpose. The hull came on. and the stick broke the first, time he hit the animal, which then knocked him down. Deceased bad stated that- the hull was dangerous and always followed him.
A sensation was caused at the Philatelic Kxhibition in the Art Gallery, Christchurch, on Tuesday morning when it was discovered that a sheet of stamps forming part of an exhibit by one of the leading philatelists of the Dominion had been stolen. 'I he stamps comprised a small collection of the issues of the British Colony of ikirhadoes, hearing portraits of King George V. The value could not be ascertained yesterday. The theft was discovered as the result of a reporter picking up a stamp from the floor near the Armagh Street entrance to the Art Callery. Realising that it would be from one of the exhibits lie took it to an official of the exhibition, and on making an inspection of the exhibits, the official discovered that a sheet of ■Barbados stamps was missing from its place in the frame. The police were at once notified and a detective was sent to the exhibition to investigate the matter. 1/ut the thief has not been cn light.
