A LIBERAL SPLIT. LONDON, November 15
All the party organs are speculating as to th<* effect of Captain Wadgwood Menu's statement that the people have no confidence in Mr Lloyd George. The captain says: “I desire to sav plainly that 1 cannot acknowledge in any way, direct or indirect, Mr Lloyd George as my leader in the House of Commons.
If Captain Wedgwood Benn’s opinion is shared hy other Liberal Commoners, then obviously the Liberal Party in the House of Commons, siilall as it is. will divide, and any new movement for a reorganisation of the Liberal forces throughout, the country will be seriously impeded. The “Daily Telegraph” affirms that .Mr Lloyd George is certain to he selected as leader at the meeting cd the Liberal Parliamentary Party as soon as the session opens. The “ Daily Chronicle” declares Captain Wedgwood Heim’s action, at a moment when unity is so essential among the little hand of Liberals in the 'louse of Commons, has aroused general resentment.
The “Daily Herald ” says: “The pact with the Tories worked badly for the Asquithians, hut favourably for the Llo.vd Georgians, at which the Asquithiau wing is angry. Mr Lloyd George, having secured a" majority in the attenuated Parliamentary Party, is now playing for the leadership and controi.”
The “Morning Post” observes: “Dis* sentient has arisen as soon as Mr Asquith's hack was turned.”

The •‘Sunday Express” points out that if Air Lloyd George becomes the Leader of the Parliamentary Party. Mr Asquith will still he the leader of the I’artv throughout the country. It is stated that Mr Lloyd George provided £'»(UMX> for election purposes out of the national Liberal Fund. One hundred thousand was asked for in Which case the Liberals could have run live hundred instead of three hunched candidates.
