At the Police Court yesterday, William Joseph Hill, aged (M, who admitted failure to maintain his wife, was sentenced to (1 months’ imprisonment.
WRIGHT ESTATE CASE. JUSTICE REED’S JUDGMENT. CHRISTCHURCH, November 12. Mr Justice [{red, in a judgment in a ease involving tlie will of the late E. G. Wright of Ashburton, and transact ions connected with the Surrey Hills and Windermere estates, made an order for inquiry as to the price paid for stock hv D. G. AY right and the interest paid 'ov him to the trust estate.
As to the application to remove the trustees the judge said that neither Mrs Wright nor the lion Nusworthy uas in a position to look alter the estate properly. Nothing conveyed to his mind the faintest impression of mala lidos or fraud oil their part, hut he thought they should at once take steps to he discharged from the trusteeship and get the estate lanserred to the public, trustee.
INQUEST VERDICT. DUNEDIN. November 12. At the inquest on Josiah hlphinstiinc, aged 75, who wa.s found in the scrub near the Cemetery Road with a bullet wound in his head it was shown that deceased suffered Iroin an incurable disease, ihe vcidiet was that deceased shot himsell while in a depressed state of mind, due to illhealth.
young woman thief. AUCKLAND, Nov. J2. A fortnight ago the Christchurch police «ere looking for a young woman, Nina Mary Lang on charges of thelt. It was then thought she had gone to Australia. A week ago she was Ideated at Auckland and arrested on live charges of obtaining goods by false pretences from Auckland simp-keepers of a total value of CJ'.I Ss id. and also of stealing a. cheque valued at £li its (>d the property of Harry Anderson ol ChrUtchunh. She pleaded guilty to all charges. Chief Detective Cummings stated L'27 worth of goods were recovered and the rest had been given ;,s presents to gentlemen friends. Accused was sentenced to twelve months’ reformative detention and was remanded to Christchurch on the cheque stealing charge.
