RACING SENSATION
(Received this day at 10.25 a.in.) SYDNEY, November 10,
A sensation was caused in racing circles owing to the hurdler Parvenu, owned by Colin Stephen, Chairman of the Australian Jockey Chili having been doped to prevent his winning a race. Parvenu won in u hollow fashion at the last start, three weeks ago, and ulthough raised in the weights lie was regarded as a certainty for Saturday’s race and was heavily backed by the public and punteis. The horse failed to get into the running until the end and tlu4i gained a very bad third, mainly owing to mistaken jumps of the horses ahead. On the return to the stall, the trainer noticed the horse was behaving strangely and Jincl him examined by a veterinary surgeon, who declared the animal was doped with liclla donna, which would impair bis sight and prevent sure jumping. For uu unscrupulous person to slip into the horse box and insert an hypodermic injection of dope would lie but the work of a moment. The police are investigating.
