AMUSEMENTS.

everybodys pictures. LILLIAN GISH—TO-XIGHT. At tlic> I’rincuss Theatre to-night. Everybody's Pictures present “ Broken lilossoiu.s,” starring Richard llartliclinass and Lilian (Jish, who piovcs her remarkahle talent as a screen actress in her performance of Lucy, the chilli in I). \V.Griffith's art sensation. In Thomas Burke's story, "The Chink and the Child,” taken from " l.imehouse Nights,” Lucy, the daughter of “ Rattling Murroivs,” is supposed to he twelve years old, but with the license of the artistic producer, .Mr. Griffith took the liberty of adding three years to her age. Few who see her performances as Lucy will forget that tragic moment when at her bullying father's command she tries to push her wan lips into the semblance of a smile. Air. Griffith declares that this was a purely involuntary piece of acting; for when during the photography of the first scene of cruelty between her father and herself and she was all in very real tears, he suggested as director, that she smile through her tears. She was so wrought up over the scene lluit she tried to smile, but could not, and then, quite naturally and without thought of artifice, she with trembling lingers tried to push up the corners of her lips. It was so pathetic and human a gesture that Mr. Griffith at once realised its value and it remains one of the striking notes of the performance of this moving "tale of loves and lovers.”
