CHRISTCHURCH ITEMS
RAILWAY COAI .MISSION, flly Telegraph.—Special to Guardian). CHRISTCHURCH, Nov. 10. At the Chamber of Commerce deputation here yesterday to the Railway Commission, the President advocated a readjustment of freights generally to permit of a speeial hack loading rate. It is understood the Progress League does nut, support, this view.
Westland visitors here for the Carnival week strongly dissent trom the readjustment proposal*, as the present volume of goods traliie is possible only by the present rates, and advance will affect goods traliie offering for the railway. The hack loading concession will come eventually, seeing that everyday so many rakes of empty trucks are returning to tho Coast,, RHODES SCHOLAR. J. C. Alalfroy was runner up for the Rhodes Scholarship selection, heiltg second in voting to the Auckland candidate who was unsuccessful last year. HOT WEATHER.
The weather continues line, but it is vcrv warm.
