WESTLAND HOSPITAL

SPECIAL L’.IOO GRANT

FROM HOKITIKA SAYIXGS DANK. At the meeting of the Trustees ot the Hokitika Savings Dank yesterday afternoon, Hon. 11. b. Michel M.L.C. (vice-l’i c.sident) presiding. Messrs .1. .1. I freeze (Chairman). T. W. Dull, and K. A. Wells (memliers) of the Westland Hospital Board attended as a deputation with a request fur a special grant of L'olK) to assist in liquidating the balance owing on the building account, including the expenditure on the new isolation ward.

Mr Breeze and his colleagues detailed the financial position of the Board showing that L’ti.OilO had been contributed by the public in voluntary contributions to the new buildings, and that the Trustees of the Savings Dank had donated also 1199*1 to the same purpose. ’l’lie generosity ot the I rusted in the past was commended, ini lulling the liberal vote which had been made also towards the purchase of the “X” ray plant. The deputation pointed out that, with a grant of L'oOtl now the Board would he able to tide over its present financial difficulties, and leave a clean sheet for the incoming Board next financial year. Various economies were being introduced, and the office was making every effort to collect fees due from paying patients.

After the deputation retired. the Trustees considered the application when it was resolved unanimously tc make a special donation ot (.‘•lOO to the funds of the Westland Hospital, subje: t to the approval ot the ’lreasury. The grant will carry a L' tor £ subsidy, making the total L'1,900.

With the present contribution, the Savings Bank Trustees have now contributed substantially over £2009 to the local hospital institution. Before the deputation retired yesterday. tin* Chairman intimated that the funds of the Bank were as substantial now as ever they were, the Bank Bank being in a very sound financial position, with ample cover for all deposits.
