When the Finance Bill was introduced in the House on Tuesday night Mr AYilford asked if it contained any provision for the relief of country racing clubs from taxation Mr .Massey replied that it did not. Tie had been looking into the matter and he thought it would he a mistake at present to propose any reduction of taxtion. The marriage took place on Tuesday at St Mary’s C hurch of Miss Myrtle Holley, daughter of Mr and Mrs R. Holley of Hampden Street to ATr John .MeEnaney, second son of Mr and Mrs M. The Hon. Minister of Public AVorks has advised the Hokitika Borough Council that the offer to settle the claim for the cost of the protection put in at the time of the sea erosion, for 1'.'.0:) has been accepted hv the Government. This is on the basis of the original offer by ttho Council when first asking for aid at the time hut the total expenditure was exceeded considerably without any reference to the Council which in any case could not at the time ha ve incurred a larger liability.

The booklet is designed to make the reader belter acquainted with the glorious scenic wonileilalid which exists in AA'estland. and thanks to the printer’s art it accomplishes the task very pleasingly. The booklet is to be distributed free for advertising purposes. and is so excellent a medium for the purpose designed that those who appreciate the value of a good advertisement for AA'estland might well assist the local Progress League with a spec ial contribution towards what must lie the large cost incurred by tbe issue of ilie production, which is to have a. worldwide circulation. Teiehelinniiii has been closely identified with the preparation of the booklet and many of the views are new and specially taken by him for the- little wo:];, tbe general excellence of wbiedi will lie no small reward lor tbe labor ot love the task of preparation involved.
