HIDES AND TALLOW SALE.
WELLINGTON. October 31. The fortnightly sale of skins, hides and tallow were held to-day by the various brokers. A medium catalogue of all classes was olfercd to a fair attendance of buyers.
Bag wool was also offered, and prices bid were very satisfactory. Very strong competition prevailed for all grades of sheepskins, prices being firm at late rates. Some good parcels were keenly competed for. Sallies were slightly easier on late rates with the exception of pelts, which showed an advance of 3d to (id per skin. There was fair competition for hides. Prices for heavy and light ox were down id to id Cows were very firm, lights showing an advance of id per lb. on previous rates recorded. Kip and yearling again sold well at about late rates, while calf improved slightly. especially weight, over ‘Gib. For a nice line of calf averaging -It lb. tod was secured, and for a parcel averaging G lb the same price. Tallow sold well up to late rates, good lots showing a slight increase.
