SUNDAY SCHOOL’S ESCAPE. I NEW PLYMOUTH. Nov. 3. i A deliberate attempt to burn the new Anglican Sunday School building was frustrated last night at about seven o’clock. A girl living nearby saw the blaze and found a. sack of shavings burning against the back door. She

extinguished the lire and gave information. but no clue has yet been found. The building has been only just completed and was to be opened this week.

'WHISKY STOLEN. CHRISTCHURCH, Nov. 3. Four cases of whisky, valued at £2l were stolen from the railway goods shed on Saturday night. The police so far have made one arrest, Alister McMillan, aged 20, who is alleged to be concerned with others.

MAN CUTS HIS THROAT. , HAMILTON, November 3. An unknown man was found by a boy staggering about with his throat cut in a gorse covered area at Hamilton Fast last evening. A constable was summoned and he rendered first aid,, but the man died within a few minutes. The razor was later picked up near where the deceased was first seen. Nothing is known of the man and nothing by which ho could _be identified was found. He is about fifty voors of ago, five feet nine inches in height, fair complexion, red beard, wore a light tweed suit, and has newly soled boots.

LITTLE UNWANTEDS.

TWO RABIES FOUND BURIED

INVERCARGILL. Nov. 3.

The bodies of two newly burn infants were found buried in the sand on the shore of the estuary by two young men. whoso attention was attracted by the vigorous pawing of their retriever dog. Medical opinion is that one of the babies was still bom and the other may have breathed. A woman and a. girl, with an empty perambulator, were seen in the locality on Friday. The police are investigating.

INQUEST VERDICT. INVERCARGILL. Nov. 3

At the inquest held on Joseph Sharp, aged Vi. a retired farmer, who was found drowned ill the AAaihopai river, i”.e evidence showed that he was woiryi; g about finance, though ho had no occasion t n do so. An open \eiduf was returned.

LVUNCTI TRAGEDY INQUEST. AUCKLAND. Nov. 3. Hansford scar, went to Paratu to inspect the quarry and the party were returning to the launch when the dingy was upset. A oung Hansford and three others, including Eric Parsons, a son of 11. C. Parsons, Mr Hansford’s foreman, were in it when the Dinghy was swamped. Young Hansford clung to the small craft. Howard Parsons and George Millertou swam out to help those in the water. Parsons rescued his own son. who could not swim and then swam back for young Hansford, but the latter was washed away before Parsons could reach him. The others who were capsized swam ashore.

Deceased was aged twenty and resided at Epsom. At the inquest the verdict was accidental drowning.

SUDDEN DEATH. WELLINGTON. November 2. Regret was expressed when news was received from Palmerston North of the sudden death Salvatore Cimino,

a well-known musician, resident in Wellington, who was musical director at the Paramount Theatre. Deceased conducted the orchestra at the opening of a new theatre, lie returned .to his hotel after the performance, collapsed and died, lie was well-known through-out New Zealand.
