The Australasian sculling championship race resulted in an easy wine for I’, d. I human (holder) over Richard Arnst (challenger). The course was three and a quarter miles, ami the rare was rowed against a four knot current on the Waikato River. The rate was very exciting. Hannan got the lead at the start, and maintained it throughout. Arnst broke n portion of his right scull, as the result of hitting n piece of timber in the early stages of the race, but he admits that it made no difference to the result. Hannon won well by over twenty lengths. The time was 2fimin -lOsecs, which is good for the course against such a current.
HADE!ELD SERIOUSLY HURT AUCKLAND, October 2-1.
Darcy Hadlield, holder of the world’s sculling championship title, was admitted to the hospital to-day suffering from injuries to the head and body. Their extent is not yet known. He was motor cycling at Morningsido, and in endeavouring to pass two motor ears, his machine touched by one caused him to fall.
