ANARCHY IN BENGAL. DELHI. October 20,
The Yicerov of India exercising his emergency power, promulgated an ordinance with a view of suppressing the revolutionary conspiracy at Bengal. He declared he was convinced the conspiracy was deep seated and dangerous, and it was necessary to take immediate strong measures to repress it. The ordinance constitutes a tribunal to try revolutionary cases and provides powers for dealing with suspects ami seeming evidence, in view ■if intimidation and violence to witnesses. Police at Calcutta arrested twenty-seven persons, including threo leading supporters of the Das on suspicion of being connected with the anarchical movement in Bengal
The Commissioner of Police says the arrests are the lesult of evidence of a definite organised revolutionary conspiracy. ,Searches and arrests are proceeding throughout Bengal, whereof details are not yet received.
