Though the mixed goods and passenger train from Christchurch to Hokitika last evening was waiting to enter the station for some minutes before the train for Hokitika left Gre.vniouth last evening, the Christchurch train was not allowed to come in to the station until the Hokitika train had left. As a result the passengers who were going on to Hokitika had to miss the connection, except in the ease of one passenger who took a car and caught the train at Rama. A fatal drowning accident, the victim of which was John J.everne Love, aged about eight years, occurred in the Blackball Creek about 2 n.m,. on
•Saturday. It appears that Love along with another hoy, was out fishing, and in an attempt to cross the creek, deceased overbalanced, and was quickly borne away by the Hood that was raging at the time. His male, David Kirk, quickly gave the alarm, and a body of men were immediately on the spot, hut despite all efforts of search, no trace of the body could be found. The discoloured water and the raging Hood gave the searchers little chance of discovering the body before nightfall. Early on Sunday morning a body of men headed by Constable Garden, started a thorough search, and after three hours discovered the body caught in some snags, about 80f) yards from the scene of the fatality. The victim was the son of Mr and -Mrs Joseph Love, of Blackball, recent arrivals from America.
A motor accident occurred oil Sunday in which a couple of cars were seriously damaged. A Ford car, driven by Mr Tyson (Inspector of Factories) who was returning from Blackhall, after ascertaining there the details of the settlement that has been effected in the dispute lately existing
at the Roa mine. When a mile and a half on this side of Ngahere, in a cutting, Mr Tyson’s car encountered another car, driven hv Mr Thorn, of Waiuta, the latter vehicle being on
its way down hill through the cutting. Whilst Mr Tyson’s car was pulled into the roadside, the other car could not lie pulled up in time to avoid a collision, and swerving under brake pressure, it struck the side of Mr Tyson’s car, smashing wheels, springs and other parts. It was fortunate that those aboard escaped injury in the circumstances.

Archbishop O’Shea announced at Wellington on Sunday that a hospital to lie conducted bv the nursing sisters of the well-known Lewisham llos pital, Sydney, will be opened in Wellington next year. Lynda Henderson Carson, a Bi-year-old school girl, was found lying unconscious in shallow water al the Alunieipal Tepid Baths Christchurch, on Saturday morning, and all efforts to resuscitate her failed. About II o’clock her companions noticed she was under the water, but believed she was making a long dive. AA'hcn she did not come up, two of them carried her to the side of the bath, and called the custodian, Air 11. Broward. Artificial respiration was immediately carried out. Dr G. Al. L. Lester arrived shortly afterwards, and then declared that life was extinct. Lynda Carson was a daughter of Airs Elizabeth S. Carson, widow, of SI Ollivicr’s road I.inwood. She was a member of a class of I.inwood school girls, who, accompanied by their teacher. .Miss Kathleen Free, went to the baths regularly on Saturday mornings.
