Duncan aml Co. forwarding plan of sub-division of freehold section.—Received and approved. From R. Beatty, Christchurch, offering £35 for slates removed from Free Public Library.—Received and action in acceptin'; offer approved. From Westland Football Union notifying that they were unable to send a soccer team to Hokitika and asking that the grant of Cass Square as made he ea pool led.—Received. From E. James, complaining of the difficulty of netting connection on the telephone with the abattoir and asking for an improvement in the arrangements.—Received. Mr Kino thought the only remedy was to put

Mr Coulson moved that permission l*e oranted. hut that it lie suggested that a site in Mae,undrew Square would be more suitable. Seconded by the Mayor and carried. From W. It. Accounts amount ing to L'sßß 7s Hi were passed fur payment. PUBLIC WORKS COAIAHTTEK. During the week the I’ublie Works Committee paid a visit of inspectioi to various parts of the town. Afte careful consideration wo reeonimeiK the following works to be oarriot out:—• 1. —The dismantling of two dilapi dated foot-bridges in Jolly St. south beween Weld St. and Hibson Quay, am replaced with concrete pipes am gravel filling. Estimated at £lO. 2. —Cleaning out creek bo l Wee l Stafford St. and Weld St. on east lowi bounndry. 3. —('leaning up Livingstone St drain between Hampden St. and river and building up embankment lietweei: Stafford ami Hampden Sts. I.—Approaches to .lolly and Davie Sts. north of Hampden St. be widened tlio full width of the respective streets.
5.—-Tin* footpath in Rrillnn St. 1111 the east side. between Hampden riiul Stafford Sts. Ix* gravelled :ind tin: open drain deepened to Jillmv MoUrnm and Marks to drain into. (>.—That Mr Robinson lx* allowed to connect with (In* Sower in Weld St. Init no expense to he borne by the Rorough. 7. —That the present sewer in Tailored between Weld and Hamilton Sts. lie out in various places and the hydrant used to sluice out the sand and that this work- be done immediately. 8. —That fresh tenders be called for the re-croelion of the public pound. 9. —That applications be called for the position of Overseer and that advertisements be placed in all A\ est Coast papers and the Christchurch ‘‘Press.” Received : considered clause by clause. At the re(|iiest of Air Conlson it was resolved to obtain a report of the cost of widening Livingstone S. from Stafford St. to Oibson Quay by 0 feet. It was resolved that Clause c he amended to read that an estimate be obtained instead of the cost of laying an ISiit. pipe from the present terminus near Camt> St. to AA eld St. Clause 9 was amended to include the “Huardian.” “Star.” “Press” and “Dominion.” The report was then adopted. TENDERS. Tenders for the sanitary contract were received from 0. Detlafl at fid per pan per weelr. The 'I own Clerk said there were o-IO pans. The tender was declined and it was resolved to invite fresh tenders. The Abattoir Committee was authorised to have the drafting yard gravelled. The Council rose at 9 p.m.
