WELLINGTON, October 25; The House continued in committee on the Gaming Amendment Bill till at 3.50 p.m. An amendment by Mr Harris that the distribution of racing permits be transferred front the Minister to the Governor-General, was put and declared lost.

The Chairman then put Clause two. A good deal of confusion prevailed and the Labour momliers thought they were dividing on Mr Harris’ amendlnciidnient. The Chairman, Mr Young, explained the position, hut his ruling was disputed and the Labourites with Messrs Harris and Wright left tho Chamber in a body. The Committeo further considered the position nnd decided. in view of an evident misunderstanding, to take fresh votes on the amendment and the clause, Aii adjournment followed to cnablo the absent members to be tquainted with this decision. On resuming at 7.30 the members were still absent. Tho hill was put through committee with the addition of a clause lixing the minimum weight for flat races at 7.0 (to become operative from August 1025). The third .reading of the Bill lias been lixed lor the next sitting day. The Dentists Amendment Bill was reported from committee without amend, ment and progress was reported on tho Chattels Transfer Bill. The House rose at 8.2 p.m. till 7.30. p.m on Monday. LEG ISLATIVE COUXOI L. The Legislative Council met at 8 p.m. on Friday. Sir Francis Bell introduced amendments to clauses 27, 28, and 29 of tho Motor Vehicles Bill, dealing with penalties for reckless driving and resultant bodily injury or death. The clauses were merely rearranged in new legal phraseology and provision made that no person shall in respect of the samo nets, oi* acts arising out of the samo circumstances, he indicted for reckless or negligent driving and also for manslaughter. The Council adjourned at 8.45 until 8 p.m. cm [Monday.
