COUNTRY PRESS CONFERENCE. SYDNEY, Oct. 22. The New South Wales Country Press Conference adopted a resolution reaffirming its objection to the preference granted to Canadian newsprint, and confirming the action of the Executive in voicing ail emphatic protest against it. At the Country Press Association Conference, the President’s address, referring to the fight in support of the preference on British newsprint, declared that pressure had been brought to hear and when the question came before the Federal House it was defeated. 'l’llis practically closed the Australian market to British made newsprint. in favour of Canada. Speaking of the journalists’ claims, he said that the Association agreed with them in the main. It considered journalists were not overpaid. hut the claim put forward in the log of the printers and the mechanical departents were beyond the bounds of reason.
