RAILWAY BALLOT. AYELLINGTOX, October 21. The Alinistcr of Railways announced to-night tlie result of the Railway Ballot on the 44-hour week. The total number of ballot papers issued was <1242, The total number of La 1 lot papers returned was 28G2. Tho total number of votes for and against are as follows; For -I I hours 21 o] Tor -18 hours 082 Informal votes 20 ALijority of votes for II hours: 1-109. The Alinistcr stated that effect- will he given to the ballot decision.

ARCHBISHOP JULIUS RESIGNING. CHRISTCHURCH, Oct. 21.
