Mere confirmed. The lion. .Secretary (Air Niven) reported mi the Murk done during the past month by the Caretaker, including attention to the Squares and .Monuments, anil the top dressing and seeding of the plot surrounding the Burns monument. The credit balance at date was Co 8s 5d and the liabilities about 800.
The Chairman said it Mould he necessary to make an appeal for funds. | About £sl) would he required ufithin the next month to discharge the more pressing liabilities. It Mas not possible just at present to organise any local entertainment, hut something might he arranged after Christmas to that end. Aleaiitimc Air Preston and Air Evans Mere appointed to canvass lor donations to the funds. Alls \\. 11. Shaiiifon wrote offering to donate a sun dial for Cass Square, il same Mould lie accepted as a memorial to her late father. The offer was accepted with thanks. The Chairman said he understood arrangements were being made with Air IT. A. Thompson with regard to the erection of the sun dial. It was resolved to
ask permission from the Borough Council to erect the memorial on the eastern side of Cass Square. The Chairman referred to tho departure of Mr Carter and family from the town, remarking on tho good work and example shown by Mr Carter in beautifying plots about the Government buildings. It was resolved to write congratulating Air Carter on his promotion, and thank him for tho ' useful work lie had done during his residence in Hokitika.
I With regard to work about Cass | Square, it was resolved to ask the Borough Council to have the gross cut regularly to improve the sward, to arrange for a feM- loads of screened gravel for the .southern walk on tho Square, and for about 50 loads of Whitcombe Square sand, for hollow places on the main playing field. The Secretary was asked to arrange with the caretaker also for a general cleaning up of the grounds, and for a better floral show in the plots on Cass Square. The meeting concluded at 8.15.
