The death took place this morning after a painful illness of Mr Edmund Hill Thorn of Gibson Quay, and formerly a well-known settler of Bower Kokntahi. Deceased was born at (.'hagford, Devonshire, England. lie followed farming pursuits in England till he came to New Zealand in 1880. lie went to the Bimu rush and followed gold-milling for fourteen years with general success, lie then settled at Kokatahi where lie carried on farming operations for a number of years. Inter selling out to the late Air Aloynili.an. and he then mine into Hokitika to reside quietly. Deceased was li!) veals of age and leaves a family of three daughters (All's \\ . I homSCIII of Kokatahi. and .Misses Edith and Phyllis Thorn of Hokitika), and a brother (Air Ernest Thorn ot Hokitika). llis wife predeceased him in May BUM. Deceased took an active interest in the early stages <d tl |< ’ Kokatahi Dairy Factory. The funeral takes place on Friday morning.
