Gentlemen—l have pleasure in presenting the annual report and balance slu-et for the year ended 20th. Sept. 1!)-M, and in doing so, wish to congratulate the Club on a very successful season. . The annual race meeting was fixed for I’iiday 3rd. January, 1921, hut owing to unfavourable weather, the Gic)1110*11 tit races which were to have been held on Thursday were postponed and this necessitated a postponement of our meeting until Saturday. Our luck was still out as the Grey races could not bo held on Fridav owing to the very inclement weather,-hut were held on Saturday. r.lli. January, which turned out a*.splendid day. AYe had no alternative hut to postpone until Monday 7th. January, which turned out to ho ilic worst dnv of the lot, ns it was cxeeedinglv boisterous and there was no possibility of holding the raccs ; which were again postponed until Tuesday oth. January. The weather was Hdl had on Tuesday morning, hut your Committee decided to hold the races, and as the weather cleared towards the afternoon, the meeting was got olf very successfully. It. was most tinfortmiate however, for the Club, as the attendance was seriously nfi'ected, hut under the circumstances we were very fortunate in showing a small profit for the dav. The fields in the various events were very large and the racing was very interesting. there being no hitch of any kind. The totnlisntnr turnover showed a substantial decrease on the previous year, the sunt of L’7199 being put through as against £B9-19. This was in |, , |,i|. - bn"ever, with the decrease : .|, n v-,-d al all ol lu-r meetings on thn Coast, and no doubt was accentuated by the fact of the small attendance and the inclement weather. The Club adopted the 10s tote and it proved a distinct success, and was very popular with the public, the only drawback being the insufficient number of 10s windows which caused a little congestion at times. This can be easily remedied, however, if sullieieut notice is given to the totalisntor proprietor. The stint of £BSO was given in stakes as against 0810 the previous year, whilst the nominations received totalled 189 which was easily a record. Air Million was in attendance as Stipendiary Steward and reported very favourably to the Conference on the eonduct of the meeting. The Club’s stewards were all at. their posts and carried out their respective duties in their usual ellieient mainner. The refreshment rooms were again conducted by the ladies under the direction of Airs I’arkliill, and the Club is iniii-li indebted to them in that connection.
Air D. J. Evans attended the annual eonfereuee at Wellington in July as the Club’s representative and the thanks of the Club are due to him on that account.
The date of the Club’s annual race meeting for the coming season has been fixed fur Alonilay nth. January, 15)25, when it is to he hoped that the weather will treat us more kindly this year. The Club’s overdraft now stands at £8!!;) which amount is guaranteed by several of the members, and was incurred in widening and improving the track, which should now he in first class order for the coming meeting. Provided the meeting turns out a success. this amount should he considerably • decreased. In conclusion I have to ? extend the thanks of the Club to all - ollieials and others who assisted the i Club in successfully carrying out its operations throughout the year.
