Fazenda, Hank Man, and l.ydia Yoainans Titus, three comedy favourites of old, are delighting audiences as funny boarding house characters in John M. Stahl's photo-dra-matic achievement. “The Wnnters.” It is from this hoarding house lliyt the heroine, Myra Hastings, |Kirtraved hy Mario Prevost. sallies forth into the world as a chronic “wanter” and ohtains a jolt as a servant in the household of a millionaire so that she may he close to the luxuries she has always yearned for. And Lhniigh her romantic adventures eventually carry her to a high place in the social scale. Myla Hastings learns that there are worse places than tin' old hoarding house, that there are meaner people than its hoarders, and that the problem of a “wanlei” is one of the hardest, in the world to solve. A two-reel comedy and further chapters of “Perils of the Yukon” complete the usual good Monday display. Orchestral selections and usual prices.
MCLEAN’S PICTURES.
“ALICE ADAMS"—TO-NIGHT,
McLean's present to-night “Alice Adams” from the prize novel of Booth Tarkinglon. The story shows how in a certain .Middle Western small town where social position depended upon the size of the hank account, Alice Adams was snubbed hy all the friends of her childhood because her father had not progressed financially. She was included among the guests at Mildred Palmer’s dance because everybody was invited, hut no one who was desirable paid any attention lo her and she was successful only as a wall [lower until Arthur Russell. a newcomer to the town, danced with her. Russell called on her several times and raised her hopes by assuring her that she was “ different ” and “ inleresiing.” All went well until Alice’s ambitious hut tactless mother invited Russell to dinner. If was a hot evening, the heavy dinner was miserably served ami everything went wrong. All along Alice had pretended to Hassell —she had painted the Adamses in false colours, but now the situation was revealed as it really was. Old Yigil Adams the father, had been goaded by the mother into undertaking a business venture that threatened the family with disgrace. At, last came the awakening for Alice'. She tired of pretense and hypocrisy and determined to
“learn how lo work.” Florence \idor takes the leading role and is supported hy Vernon Steel, Claude Gillingwater, Margaret MeWade, Harold Cloodwin, Thomas Ricketts and Gertrude Astor. A comedy, gazette and the serial “Hurricane Hutch” complete a fine programme.
