The Legislative Council met at 2.Hit p.m. The Whakntane Purough Empowerittg liill was put through its tinal stages and passed with the restoration of the clause struck out hy the J.oeal Hills Committee, authorising the purchase of fifty acres for a sanitary depot. The Council rose at 8.10. HOUSE OF ItEI’RRSKXTATIVES. The House met at 2.80 p.m. In the House the Licensing Committee reported on the petitions asking for the Corporate Control of the litjuor trade hy referring them to the Government for consideration, the discussion on which occupied the whole of the afternoon sitting. At the evening sitting the House went into Committee ot Ways and Means, when the Minister ot Customs moved a reduction of the duty on pipe tobacco, cut and plug, to the extent of pd per ih. The duty on tobacco manufactured in Now Zealand for homo consumption was fixed as follows, cut Is Sd per lb., other tobacco Is per lb. The Meat Export Control Bill was read a second time. The Pensions’ Amendment, the Dairy Produce F.xport and the Patents. Designs and Trade Marks Amendment Bill were put through the filial stages and passed. The Railway Authorisation Bill was also put through all stages and passed. The House rose at 1.10.
