Counties Association, ’Wellington, acknowledging receipt of letter on the subject of the Motor Vehicles Bill, and advising same lias been forwarded to the Acting President for his information.—Received. From James O’Brien, M.P., Wellington, regarding the Motor Vehicles Bill, .noting Council’s wishes in the matter.—Received.

Afr AVard said the matter was of great importance from a revenue point, of view. It was resolved that letters he sent stating the reply of the .Member for Westland, and asking what promises of support they had received from the members of their respective districts. From Frank Uovolilt, The Forks, asking Council for some assistance in protecting where the river is encroaching on his section.—''Received; referred to .Messrs Jeffries and Searle to attend to. From Roadman Nolan, Mataiuui, notifying that to prevent river overflowing and eroding south bank of Upper Wanganui, it will require two stop hanks, anil stating river had done considerable damage already; cost about £2O. —Received. CL C oates, Wellington, agreeing to road through Adamson’s section il dedicated by local body.—Received; a reply to be sent stating the position as at present. From J. Cuttance, Okuru, explaining flood water, and stating statement bv Advisory Committee was not correct; also accepting offer of £lO for Okuru and Turnbull Ferry.— Received. From Roadman Nolan, Mataiuui, forwarding plan and specifications for Wataroa South Rank and Waitangi South Bank road votes.—Received. From John Chambers, and Sons, Christchurch, with regard to second hand Tangye engine, to he used for stone crushing plant, and supplying

Mr Duff moved that the agitation ho supported.' Air Murdoch stated that it was the firm of Stuart m,(| Chapman Ltd., who had drawn attention ‘to the matter. ’I hey had offered to exchange the area, for another area with the Forestry Department. Mr, Ward would like to see this area preserved, hut lie did not think the area would he safe in the hands of the Forest Service. He had not much faith in that Department and did not think they were going to benefit ’Westland in the future and they were not doing it

now. Mr Chesterman said it was a lino scenic asset and it should he preserved by the Tourist Department as a seeiiie reserve. Air Alurdoch commended the action of Stuart and Chapman I Ad. in urging that the bu.sli area, near Fergusons should lie preserved and that the Council urge that an area, of hush of similar area and value he exchanged and the area, preserved. Seconded hy AL- Searle and carried. From X. Z. Roads Ltd., Auckland, stating willingness to undertake road construction contracts.— Received. From Rimu United Sluicing Coy, asking that Scdduii’s Terrace road he deviated to permit of the Company’s nulling operations being carried on.— Received; referred to AH lies Department for a special vote of £ooo for the work. From Lewis and Wells giving notice of application hy John Alnrks lor a prospecting license at Tucker Flat, and asking consent of Council where area crosses the road. —Received; consent granted. From Roadman Nolan reporting Wataroa south hank track had been eroded and stating attention necessary to give access to Wallace's farm. —Received. From Overseer Alillner reporting a vote of about £75 would he required to cone with Evans creek where making inroads on private property.—Received. From same estimating cost of opening road access from Kokatahi ria Styx to head of Lake Kanieri would cost about £39o.—Received. From W. Ohlcrog asking the Council to request Air Agncw to remove his fence. — Received. From Okarito Harbor League asking for support to request for improvement to Okarito harbor.—Received. M r Searle moved that hearty support ho given to the request for improvement- or the harbor.—Received hy the Chairman and carried. FINANCE COAIAIITTKE’S REPORT. Your Committee has the honor to report that the accounts presented _ for the month of Scptemlrcr, 102-1, have been carefully examined, and lieg to recommend that the amount as approved. totalling £2952 2s Id. he passed for payment. With respect to letter from E. Kiibv regarding license lee for motor truck used in the transport of children to sdliool, your Committee recom,mends that the fee ho lixed at £5 for the year while the vehicle is so employed. To regard to an application from Roadman Nolan lor horse feed allowance, owing to tlu' high cost delivered in South Westland.' your Committee has no recommendation to make.--Re-ceived and adopted. TENDERS. Tenders for supply of gravel for Ferguson Road was received from T. Foster at (is (id per yard. Declined as too high. Air Jeffries reported that with Air ■SVarlo he had obtained a horse and dray for llarihari district. - Approved. ORDER PAPER. SPECIAL .MEETING. The Chairman moved:— “That pursuant to the provisions of Section !)!) of the Comities Act, PJ2O, relating to the passing of special orders, the Council now proceed to confirm the resolution carried at the special meeting on the 9th. day of September, 1921, whereby it. was resolved as follows: —‘That pursuant to the provisions of section 21 of tile Local Bodies Loans Act, 15)1 H, the Council proceed hy special order and decide to pay the annual recurring interest and sinking fund oil Kakapotalii Bridge Loan, No 2, of £1,009 at 5j per cent (repayable at the rate ol £2OO annually) out of the general fund’; and such resolution is conti 1-1110(1 hereby, accordingly.”—Seen inlet I hv .Mr Duff and carried.

Air Jeffries moved that application he made to tho Railway Department for l.io use of rolling stock for the purpose of the carriage of lambs in the coining season from Waitalia, over Stuart and Chapman’s tramway.—Seconded by Mr Searle and carried.
