Kuniara to Kapiton Road Extension : —This work was completed during the latter end of the month, a fairly satisfactory job resulting, which awaits the final inspection of the Government OHi-

COUNTV ROAD MAINTENANCE. Minor repairs were affected to portions cf Kmourn. Beach Road between the railway line and sea beach, also nits repaired with gravel on Passmore Road and water-tables cleaned aiul ruts raked on the old main road between •■Sandy’s Hill and Kapiton. Cree k bridge. The worst portions of J.oopliue ltoad were denied of encroaching scrub and gur.se growth. Stone was broken and ruts repaired on the lower end of AraImra Valley* ltoad; water tables i lea red and worn place;; repaired on the centre section of Arahiira Valley, and upper section of One Mile Roads. A defective culvert on Blue Spur to Araliurn Road was renewed with 12 inch diameter pipes, and all had holes and ruts repaired on Humphreys ltoad. Depressions and ruts were repaired on a portion of Mineral’s Road, previously cut up by the cartage of gravel for road repairs. CENTRAL RIDING. .Flood Damage Repairs. A portion of this vote was expended in I’uitlier repairs to detective and damaged portions of the outlet drain on Lower T\i>kntalii ltoad.

Slip Hill Improvement, Lake Kanieri Road.—The balance ol the Hood damage grant was exp'eiided in widening a pmtinm of Lake Knuieri Road on Slip Ilill.

COUNTV ROAD MAINTENANCE. Lake Kanieri ltoad was dragged from Kanieri to the Lake, scrub and fern cleared from the roadside, and water-tables cleaned from Boucher's Creek to the Lake. A quantity of broken metal, gravel, and screenings was used in repairs between Kanieri and Stripland Creek Bridge. Between Stripland Creek and Left Hand Branch Bridge, flushed metal was placed on the road for three feet in width over each wheel rut. well rolled in with the ten ton roller, blinded with gravel, and rerollcd, resulting in a greatly implored road surface. Constant attention is necessary to keep the portion carrying heavy traffic in order, and the value of keeping the road roller constantly employed rolling. especially (luring damp and wet weather, (annul he over estimated. From Left Hand Bran: h Creed; upward, broken metal and a considerable quantity of rough pit and railing gravel was used ill repairs to very low and rutted portions with the lesult that a great improvement has been effected throughout the whole length of the road. At present portions are slightly rough for light, motor trallie, but will lie improved when the roller is available for tho upper portion of road beyond Kanieri River Bridge.

Watertahles were ploughed on Lower Kokatahi Road between Dawson Road and Raft Creek Bridge; and motor worn link's repaired between Ta minell i Creek and Graham's Hotel. Wall Road drain, originally IS inches in width, hy 12 inches in depth, was widened to four feet and deepened to 3 feet, over a distance of 20 chains from Oropp Road junction, towards Cainclhack. The newly metalled portion of Lower Kokatahi Road between Kline’s and Lang's Rond was dragged and placed in order. A drain was cleaned on Gavin's Road, and a

short sc* tiou of 3-iin h diameter pi| e drain constiiicted at Woodstock. Detective decking was removed and replaced on several culverts and bridges in Kokatahi and Koiterangi. The working parly under the direction of Bridge Foreman 11. Reynolds, effected repairs to Kanieri River and Left Hand Branch Bridges, Lake Kanieri ltoad. and partial repairs to Kanieri River Bridge, Lower Kokatahi ltoad. SOUTHERN HIDING.

Little Wanganui Trad; Widening, £1.70 grant, was (omplctcd in a satisfactory manner.

C'3oo grant, also the formation, and clearing extension to absorb the small balance remaining from the grant has been completed in a highly creditable manner and a‘-eordiiig to s; eeilieation. COUNTY ROAD .MAINTENANCE. .Minor repairs weie effected to Waitalia. Settlement Read, and shelter idled at road junction, painted. Urgent repairs were a! o ell'c led to portions of Wanganui Flat Road and urgent repairs commenced on Petersen’s Road Extension. The metalling and repairs to Evans Road were completed over a distance of It! chains and fallen trees removed from the creek crossing Evans Road. Roadman Whiliskic attended to the construction of concrete pipes at Ilerepo as circumstances permitted.
