The remainin': portions will lie "ravelled as soon as

Gibson Quay, Livingstone St., and the upper part of Livingstone St., have been "ravelled with river "ravel, and ruts raked in with the horse lira". Although these streets have had a "nod eoat of "ravel twice during the past three months they require "ravelling again, the heavy motor Iraflie cutting them up badly. lirittan St. drain between Weld and Stallord St. has been laid with 0-in. earthenware pipes, and the filling will he completed with spoil from street grading shortly. The bridge in Davie St. has been removed and a double row of eighteen inch concrete pipes placed in the creek and tilled with gravel from the river bed so it will now he a more permanent job. The town water service has taken up a larger portion of time during the past month than usual. The pipe line has been extended 108 feet along Davie vSI. towards Stafford St., a hand valve put in and three residences connected in Davie St., two in Stallord St., one in Hampden St. making six new connections. One new four-inch has been put ill in Rolleston St. to replace a taultv one that has been leaking badly, and a

good many leaks stopped in different streets. One trip lias been made along the pipe line from the reservoir to the lake, leaks stopped and valves attended to. The line through the bush requires cutting out, being badly overgrown in places, making it difficult for ’ inspection. The water supply has kept ’ up well for the month, the daily average being about ten feet. The South Road, towards Kaniori, has been attended to, stones broken and ruts filled, ami is now in fair order. J.’ive chains of 18in. concrete pipes have been made during the month, and there arc now about 20 chains of 1 Sin. and .5 chains of 12-in. on hand. I have made two visits to the cemetery in the month. The Sexton has laid two chains of drainage pipes, spread 73 loads of gravel on footpaths and cleared a good portion of new ground. The footpaths still require a

further 100 loads of gravel to complete the work. The painting and paper-hanging contract has been satisfactorily completed at the Sexton’s residence. The usual street cleaning and maintenance work lias also been attended to during the month.—Received. Air Heinz stated that the cost of repairs for the heavy traffic on Hibson's Quay was very excessive and in spite of the large amount of attention it was receiving it was almost impassable. It was going to cost a very large amount every month to repair the road and then it. would not he satisfactory. Afr 10vans moved that the Council take legal advice to find out the- position of the Council as to their power to charge for the cost of upkeep caused by heavy traffic. Seconded by ATr Wood.
