The gates were defended by electrified barbed wire and machine guns. The Mukden attackers charged the gates, cut the wires and silenced the guns, the troops lighting over the heaped dead. The .Mukden right. wing smashed tin* reinforced Chihli army, near Shiheng, calf tiring one thousand of the enemy.

Thirty French, aeroplanes reached Mukden yesterday and are being liastilv assembled.
