NORTH SEA DRINK SHIP.
LONDON, August 7. Alleged to have been engaged in cooperage (the illicit soling of liquor to fishermen) in the North Sea, Claus Ilagoiiah, master of the motor-vessel -Marion, of Cuxliaven, Germany, was at Aberdeen yesterday fined £6O, or three months imprisonment, and cargo of his boat was confiscated. It was stated that while the Marian was in South Ray, Peterhead, with a large cargo of uncustomed goods a Customs officer kept observation through a telescope and saw goods taken from the hold and transferred to the small boat of the sailing vesel St Jean, of Kirkwall. Sheriff l.aing said it was clear that the motor-boat was engaged in a li-quor-running expedition and that the cargo was broken to supply fishing vessels at sea. 'flic confiscated cargo included 1,109 two-gallon cans of strong spirits, 180 cases each containing 12 bottles of brandy, cases of whisky, rum, liquors, wines, tobacco, cigars, and cigarettes.
