Tiic report of the Registrar of Friendly Societies, laid on iho table of the House, stated that the membership of friendly societies shows n substantial increase during the pasL year, the number gained being 3131, or 4.27 per cent. The gross funds of the societies increased by £lO-1.200, from C2,o!J3,0;)2 to £2,747,y02, the average capital per member la ing £’32 12s (id. The total interest earnings ol sick and funeral funds was £ 128,133 for the year on a rate equal to £3 ]!)s Hid per cent., an indication that in making investments advantage had been taken of the high interest ruling iit present. The mortality rate of 8.22 per thousand is slightly higher than that of last year, fsick pay, per member sick, decreased from £7 Ss 3d to £3 10s Sd, whilst contributions and interest earned per member rose from £3 Os 3d to 7s, the whole representing a net gain per member of £1 13s 2d, as compared with £1 His -Id for the previous year.
