RATS ENPLOIT.
AT POWER HOUSE.
CHRISTCHURCH. October (1. A rat whose curiosity led it to climb lip one of the cables in the City Council Power House to-night, was responsible for an interruption of the elect tie lighting system, as a result of which certain parts of the city and Litiwoi.d were plunged in darkness. The rat made a rapid ascent of the cable, and got at the hack of tt tension hoard, where it paid for its ness with its life. For such a small animal, it was able to cause a great ileal of inconvenience. It interfered with the functioning of an 11,000 volt eomlm-tur, and this brought about the extinguishing of house lights for over eight minutes in some instances. The interruption to the street lighting system, however, was more .serious, it being close on two hours before a plete restoration was effected.
