i.v'Sl BA.N't K AND SHIPPING. WK1..1.1X0 1 ON. October 1. .Mr T. t. IJiash, sc. rotary of the Dairy Produce Control lb.ard. made the foil*. >'* ing statement to-day with regard To marine insurance mi dairy produce : ■ The Bi.'.ird, and also its oveir-ca delegation. lias tor some lime boon investigating the question nf nmiille insurance mi dairy produce. with a view to the possibility of a lower rate .... premium being oi.tniiiiul. It has been found that to scenic the best terms it will lie. necessary for the Jloaid to (oiitract lor the whole ol the marine insurance on butter and ebec.se exported, subje. t to lertain details being satislaclorily t (included. The .Board has now arranged to do this. It is Imped that the. , initial l- will operate from shipments being made by the Orari and Arawa, commencing to load about October dol'd. > teaiuers commencing to load prior to this date, via., the .Maimoa. Akunari, Kaikoura. Rotorua and Port. Can.line, will not be included. The lontracb is to end with butter and cheese shipped on or betore August Hist.. I!)do. Definite advice regarding the commencement of the contract will be sent to exporters when the arrangements are finally completed. The insurant c will be done through the New Zealand .Marine l ndorwriters’ Association. The policy will probably lie in the mime of one member ol that Association, but the insurance, will be divided amongst the numbers. 'I be in.tes of piemium. will lie: Butter 7.s per cent., cheese Ss lid per cent., the risk io commence, in the factory with an addition Is per cent, where transhipment is incurred. 'I hose rates cover produce by any steamer and any route, to ports on the East Coast of North America, in (treat Britain, and the Continent of Europe between Bordeaux and Hamburg, both inclusive. Coder the policy produce i.s covered

against all risks, shortage of fuel, and malicious damage. A\ bile the Board has not yet any contract with the shipping companies, and produce is being shipped under contract made by the .Dairy Associations, which ends on October 31st. next, a good, deal of attention lots been given to this matter. The shipment of produce made in September is not altogether satisfactory, especially from Auckland, and the Board Inis been urging upon the oversea, shipowners’ allotment committee the necessity for prompt despatch of early shipments. From the shipping companies point of view the difficulty is that ill September and October very little refrigerated cargo other than dairy produce is offering for shipment, and it is difficult to secure it full cargo. The shipping companies express their willingness to sail without a full ship as far as ordinary cargo is concerned hut expect- at least a reasonable cargo of refrigerated produce. I.t may he necessary in future to consider concentrating early .shipments at one port with tt view to quicker despatch at different ports. The position is about as follows :

Auckland—September butler will all he shipped by the Kotnrua, loading from October sth to Bth, and the Mainioa loading from OTtHer Hth to 11th., hut the Rotorua will not limtlly sail from Wellington until October 17. The Mainioa, .sailing from Wellington on November Ist, and the Ornri sailing from Auckland on November 12th.. will lift till the butter up to about October 25th. The steamers mentioned will also lift till available cheese. New lMvmnuth -The Tonic. Alaimott. and Rotorua will clear all butter and cheese up to almost the end of September. and the I’ort Caroline, Arawa :ilid Ornri. till sailing, before the ntdiclle of November, will clear everything u]i to about O: tohor 25th. Wellington, including l’atea and Wanganui—The lonic and .Mainioa will dear up butter ami ehce.se to September I2l)th. and the Port Caroline, Arawa and Ornri take everything lit) to about October 25th. In the South Island produce is not available Tor shipment so early as in the North Island and except for small shipments in the Rotorua ami Kaikoura. shipments will commence with the I’ort Caroline and Arawa, loading in the south in the hitter half cf October. and fniallv sailing from the north

.early in Nt-Vemher. These steamers will dear everything from .Lyttelton, Timnrii, Dunedin and Bluff up to the date of loading there, and will leave these | arts practically in the same position as those in the north.
