Another problem has evolved over the world's sculling championship which resulted in Ooodsell issuing a fresh challenge and making a deposit to row l’addon tor the title, this is the outcome.of the verdict ol prominent rowing men. who declare that Paddon must cither again row Ooodsell, or forfeit the title to him ; hut that lie champion cannot retire. They ‘point' out that the rules, drawn up by rowing experts in January, 1007, after George Towns won the title, made no provision for a champion's retirement. They only recognised his successor as being anvone who defeats him, or to whom, he' forfeits by default. The rules which those of 1907 superseded provided for retirement.
