The Arbitration Court is hearing a dispute in connection with the llaxmilling industry, the same being in the nature of an aopcal bv millers against tlici rate of pay fixed per lon lor cutting flax by lli(> sideleaf method. Mr Hammond, for the millers’ said under the award governing the parties it was provided that if new machinery were introduced or any new methods adopted. the rate of pay for such work in connection thereto lie reached by niulual agreement, failing that the question lie referred to the Inspector nl Awards. A demand was made mi the millers for one pound per toil of llax bv the side-leaf method. The parties lulled to reach an agreement and the dispute was referred to the Inspector, who had fixed the rate at Bis 7A cl per ton. Against that sum. the ease was brought, to court. The millers alleged the rate was exorbitant. Ihe rate for cutting tinder the old system was is.
DETAILS OF EXPLOSION. AUCKLAND. Sept. 21. Windows were smashed and the girders ol the roof slightly lifted. The tote that was used yesterday was hardly injured and could lie used again to-day. Iho gws and water mains remain intact, and discount the possibility that the explosion was call-oil bv gas. ’lke door uf the building was open, the lock having liven forced, either bv the explosion or by .1 parson with intent to destroy the premises. The damage is estimated at £S!!P to CIRRI). which is covered by insurance. There is no doubt the explosion was deliberately -ill used, but the reason is a complete mvslery.
