A DOUBLE SUICIDE. LONDON, Sept. !». Professor 11. G. Evelyn-White, lecturer at Leeds University, and a wellknown Egyptian archaeologist, coinmil ted suicide in a taxi cab at Leeds while proceeding to an inquest on Miss Helen Niiul, a music teacher, whither he bad been subpoenaed. The inquest disclosed that M.*ss Niiul had poisoned herself with carbolic mid. Correspondence between White and Miss Nine was produced at the inquest. A QUEER CAREER. DELHI, September 10. Action for maintenance was brought l,v the Maharanee of Tikari (a Euroloan) against her husband the Rajah ~, Tikari. a young Indian nobleman of Bengal. The action was dismissed. The plaintiff is an Australian girl, and was forntery .Miss Elsie Sitwell, whoso stauo name was Elsie Torrest. She vi-ited India in 1001 ill company with her husband, as members of a theatrical company. Later the couple wero divorced, and Elsie returned to India, and adopted Hinduism. She then married the Rajah of Tikari. The case hinged on a claim lor an annuity under a deed of giit- alleged to have been made by the Rajah of Tikari.
The Judge, in dismissing the claim, daelai'ed that the woman’s marriage with the Rajah of Tikari was illegal, because the plaintilT’s conversion to Tlindooism lias not been according to the Hindu law, and also because her divorce had been obtained from her former husband by frauduelnt moans, and without the jurisdiction of the Court.
The Rajah is now < lainiing the recovery of the Tikari family jewels from the plaintiff. As Mahrance of Tikari, i„ i.il.’l, Elsie paid a visit to Australia where she dressed in Oriental splendour entertaining lavishly, and she created a considerable sensation. THE- IRISH BOUNDARY.
