DROWNING FATALITY
YOUNG IcAD LOSES LIFE. Last evening a sad drowning fatality took place in Hokitika river, a young lad of 13 years named Archibald Claude King, son of -Mr Albert King, of Gibson Quay, losing bis life. From what can be gathered it appears that the deceased was seen about 1.311 p.m. on the river hank opposite Brittaii Street, near AYarren and Feeney’s mill, with Ins whitebait not and tin. No oik* appears to have noticed him after this, but alsnit o.Uft p.m. bis net and till were found cll the river bank, a couple of chains lower down the liver, there being no sign ol the hid. The alarm was at once given and a large number of people began searching and dragging operations. These were continued but it was not till about 1 '2.3(1 a.in. that the hotly was recovered mi the* outside ol the protection works in the liver proper in about ten feet of water, just opposite ihe deceased’s home. f l he fatality caused a painful feeling in the town and deep regret and sympathy is expressed for the parent and brothers and sisters of the deceased.
