The “TarauaKi Herald's’’ Opunake, correspondent reports that an accident' which might easily have keen attended by serious results occurred at the railway works the other day. It appears that one of the workmen was riding with one foot on an engine and one oil a truck, and when the train was crossing the bridge over the AVaiaua River the truck parted, from the engine and ran hack, and the workman fell on to the bridge. Tie caught liokj of tUf engine as he fell and was dragged along .bv it. receiving a very so r vor shaking and one or two broken ribs. .Had lie fallen right through between the sleepers on the .bridge lie. would have .been .killed without o«uht. as there is a good drop to the river.
